- Plan and prepare for hand held mining
- Access, interpret and apply hand held mining documentation and ensure the work activity is compliant
- Obtain, interpret, clarify and confirm work instructions
- Identify, address and report environmental issues, potential risks and hazards
- Select and wear appropriate personal protective equipment
- Wash down and visually inspect work area to ensure safe access
- Ensure work area is properly ventilated and free of dust and blasting fumes before entry
- Inspect and assess site conditions and determine if scaling is required and take action
- Identify, inspect and clearly mark all exposed butts and misfires
- Ensure that butts or remnants are made safe or report the occurrence
- Select, and check for faults, equipment/tools for the activity
- Identify if breakthrough with drill-steel may occur and take appropriate action
- Use approved dust suppression and extraction methods
- Obtain and interpret emergency procedures, and be prepared for fire/accident/emergency
- Set up hand held machine
- Carry out hand held mining operations
- Continually monitor hazards and risks, and ensure safety of self, equipment and others
- Select appropriate drill steel and determine hole collar location
- Drill holes in accordance with drilling plan
- Continue to monitor condition of back, walls and floor
- Monitor hand held machine and air-leg for efficient operation
- Carry out post operational procedures
- Shutdown machine and disconnect services
- Inspect machine for defects and damage
- Remove equipment, hoses or debris from the work area
- Store machine and associated equipment and plant in a designated or safe location
- Complete housekeeping requirements
- Process and maintain written and verbal recording and reporting requirements
